How Long We’ve Been Here
The Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals American Federation of Teachers affiliated with AFL-CIO granted a charter to Oregon Federation of Nurses Local #5017 under the jurisdiction of Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and Foundation Health Plan of Oregon on December 1, 1979. A history book entitled, “Oregon Federation of Nurses – Kaiser Local 5017, AFT, AFL-CIO,” was penned by Louise Christensen, Katherine Schmidt and others as a tenth anniversary historical account of the OFN nurses union. It is rich with the history and accounts of struggles of all those who worked tirelessly to build the union. There is a copy of the book at OFNHP headquarters.
